The Assam Backward Classes Commission was constituted by the Government of Assam under Section 3(1) of the ABC Commission Act, 1993 vide Notification No.TAD/BC/212/92/Pt.I/4, dated 31-03-1994.

In exercise of the power under Section 9 (1) of the above Act, The Commission shall examine requests for inclusion of any class of citizens in a Backward Class in the list and hear complaints of over-inclusion or under-inclusion of any Backward Class in such list and tender such advice to the Government, as it deems appropriate.
